Make this Christmas one you won’t end up regretting well into January
Most people will eat and drink differently at Christmas and use it as an excuse to over indulge.
Some sensible planning and forethought can help cut those Christmas calories and grams of saturated fat so here are some tips to help you make your festive holidays a little healthier.
Plan ahead – Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance
In the run up to the party season there are usually lots of opportunities to over-indulge. Most people gain a bit of weight over Christmas, but with a bit of forethought and clever planning, you can keep this to a minimum.
Stock up on healthy snacks at home, including unsalted nuts, roasted chestnuts, satsumas and other fresh fruits – but remember that they still have calories, so a small handful of nuts, not the whole bowl full!
Ask friends and family not to buy you sweets and chocolate for gifts! This is a normal request for me, but inevitably I still end up with chocolate biscuits and a box of shortbread, (my absolute favourite!!). Request a couple of alternative gifts you’d like instead or let them know that any chocolates and biscuits will be donated to a local children’s home like I’m doing this year.
If you are going to indulge – Reason with yourself and ask, “Is it worth it?” and “Do I really want it? “Do I really want it more than I want to fit into those jeans?!” – If it is worth it, then try to keep this to once or twice over the Christmas period, rather than every day for the whole week.
When you’re going grocery shopping: Write a list of what you NEED & STICK TO IT, eat before you go – these two tips alone will save you pounds (£’s) and pounds (lbs). Just because the isles are full of cr@p, it doesn’t mean you have to buy it and it certainly doesn’t mean you have to eat it if you do!
